Chris Garzone is our new Winfield Scott Elementary Principal for USD 234. He will start his new position in the 2024-2025 Fall school year. Chris began with us at Winfield Scott Elementary as the Assistant Principal for the 2023-2024 school year. We are excited he is furthering his time with us, in his new position!
A bit about Chris:
Chris' Background-
Mr. Garzone obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Health (K-12) from Sterling College in 1993. Chris began his teaching career and coaching career in Gallup, NM. Chris taught physical education and health (K-12) and he was the athletic director from 1995 - 1999. Chris and his wife Laura (Tuchscherer of Fort Scott) moved back to Fort Scott in 1999. He then taught elementary physical education at the K-2 buildings in Nevada, Mo. Chris also taught at Heartland Behavioral Health Hospital. He coached various sports at Nevada while pursuing his master's degree from Pittsburg State University in Educational Leadership. In 2005, Chris was hired as an assistant principal at Pittsburg Community Middle School. In 2006, he transferred to Pittsburg High School where he served as an assistant principal for 17 years. After the 2022-23 school year, Chris accepted the assistant principal job at Winfield Scott Elementary.
Chris & his family-
Mr. Garzone has been married for 30 years to Laura Tuchschere Garzone. Together they have four amazing children. Haley is pursuing her masters degree from Kansas University in hospital administration. Austin will graduate with his associates degree in automotive from Pittsburg State University in May of 2024. Molly is in her third year at Pittsburg State University pursuing elementary education. Tyler, our youngest, is in his junior year of high school.
A message from Chris-
"I have 29 years of experience as an educator. 19 of which have been in administration. What I like about this profession is the connections I've made throughout the years with students, parents and staff. My role as the next principal of Winfield Scott Elementary is to continue to support a positive learning environment in which all students can learn and be supported. We have an amazing staff at Winfield Scott who care about their students! My motto I live by is, Students always come first.
