Robin Button,
Food Service Director
About Our Food Service Director
For Robin Button, Fort Scott’s Food Service Director, feeding kids is more than her job - it’s her passion.
Since 1993, Ms. Button has served USD 234 proudly. Then, in 2004, she became Food Service Director, the District leader responsible for ensuring the meals served to our community’s children fill their bellies - and hopefully warm their hearts.
An average day for Ms. Button includes ordering groceries, assessing inventory, and updating menus and production records. (The USDA menu requirements and the paperwork involved require a shocking amount of preparation and work!) She certifies students for child nutrition programs, and sometimes you’ll even find her in the aisles of the local grocer, where she picks up ingredients for students with special dietary needs.
Each day brings a new schedule with new pitstops, but her business is always the same: nourishing children. She takes this role seriously, as she knows that the meals students receive in their school’s cafeteria may be the most nutritious or filling of that child’s day.
“Healthy bodies fuel learning minds,” Ms. Button says.
When Ms. Button isn’t serving USD 234, you’ll find her spending time with her family, reading, taking walks, and eating ice cream. She loves caring for her house plants and taking trips to Branson.
Ms. Button believes Fort Scott is a special community filled with people who uphold traditions and collaborate well for the community’s good. She can’t imagine working anywhere else!
